The day begins with the “knocking” (kokooko)—a formal request for the bride’s hand. This is followed by the engagement ceremony (awareɛ), where gifts are exchanged, elders bless the union, and both families symbolically join together. Dressed in vibrant kente cloth, the couple is introduced and celebrated with drumming, dancing, and heartfelt speeches. Elders play a key role, offering guidance and officially uniting the families.
Guests are encouraged to wear traditional attire in family colours.
🧡 If you're on Keziah’s side – please wear orange and pink 🧡
💚 If you're on Ope’s side – please wear green and teal 💚
Your presence and prayers are the greatest gift.
As we will be travelling back to the UK after the celebrations, we kindly ask that guests refrain from bringing boxed gifts.
Thank you for your love, generosity and understanding.
